    About The Artist

    Elisabeth Grant

Elisabeth Grant is a graduate from the Dunedin School of Art where she completed her Bachelor of Visual Arts in Painting.

Her practice is a collection of works where photographs undergo a process of re-assemblage and fragmentation digitally to inspire the painting process. The work stays connected to the memories and events of the past including a variety of works including portraiture and showing figures engaging in dreamscapes. The original photos are placed in the composition and by painting them in brighter hues of colours, they have been brought back to life. Focusing on images has helped Elisabeth explore her roots and feel a deeper connection with family history by solidifying the past and calling it into the present as a new vision.

The way Elisabeth misplaces landscapes, alter realities and places figures into the composition strongly reflects the aspect of memory, nostalgia and time. Memories become installed into photographs by incorporating them into the work, to relive the experiences of her family who are no longer here. The work accurately demonstrates the ability to explore dreamscapes by collaging imagery that she finds a personal connection with, while also being able to connect with viewers. She hopes to carry through a message of memories and painting as a universal experience
